A groundbreaking study has revealed that 94% of the world’s population is named William. The study, coming from the University of Oxford shortly after its establishment, has recently been making waves on Facebook following a repost by anonymous account “ScienceFactts_.” Accumulating nearly twenty million views and over five-thousand reposts in just twenty-four hours, the post serves as a testament to advancements in information technology within the last ten years. Despite shocking many, the fact was immediately accepted by all whom the post reached.
“I really thought I knew more than just Williams,” commented user William. “Like, I could have sworn I knew at least a few Johns, and maybe even a Rebecca. But I saw it on Facebook, and I think Instagram too, so it’s hard not to trust.”
The study has garnered moderate criticism from some scholars for having too small and outdated of a sample population. Prominent Professor of Media Literacy William Wright at the University of Cambridge released a statement claiming that the research “is essentially medieval in its data collection and its sample population appears incredibly dated.” Notably, Professor Wright did not provide a source that refuted the study.
Recent reports suggest that the White House may use this study to adjust the Census Bureau’s regions in accordance with new data and to push for a mid-decade Census. However, Prospect has yet to validate these reports, as they have yet to be posted to Facebook.
